Training Sessions for Practitioners SASPARM 2

05/11/2015

Introduction

Building on the successes of SASPARM 1, The Support Action for Strengthening Palestinian-administrated Areas capabilities for Seismic Risk Mitigation SASPARM2 is split into 8 tasks from A to H. The Task D includes the training courses for students, practitioners and citizens on the compilation of the forms and the use of the collected data. This will enable the collection of structural data by citizens and practitioners in forms, Task B, where two collection forms are planned, one for citizens and one for practitioners with differences in level of details. The collected data will be used to implement the vulnerability models that will be used in the Web-Based Platform to evaluate seismic risk. Using the data collected in task B, will lead to Task F that includes the development and implementation of vulnerability models for the evaluation of seismic risk.

The following is a summary report on the training sessions conducted to build the capacity of the practitioners Engineers in order to enable them to understand the objectives and the philosophy of the project and to be able to fill in the forms adopted for that.

The sessions where done VIA video conference and directed by Engineer Abdelhakeem Al Jawhari supported by Prof. Jalal Dabbeek.

-Training Sessions

The sessions were started by welcoming the attendees, introducing the trainers then a briefing about SASPARM 2.

The first session included a detailed presentation about the project presented by DR. Davide Bellotti from EUCENTRE. This gave audience an idea about the main 8 project tasks and the link between this training session and the whole project tasks.

The second session was presented by Dr.Vania Cerchiello from IUSS and it was about the explanation of the terminology TAXONOMY and its connection with the vulnerability levels and other factors affected with special attention to those that could be mitigated and others that could not, mainly connected to the hazard and exposure.

The third session was presented by DR. Davide Bellotti from EUCENTRE, which was about the vulnerability models adopted that represent the structural systems used and predominate in Nablus and other Palestinian cities.

The fourth session was presented by Dr.Vania Cerchiello from IUSS and included a detailed explanation about the contents of the collection forms and its connection with the models and systems with the differences between the forms of the citizens and those for the practitioners.

Following the lunch break, two examples for two forms filled for two existing buildings in Nablus were presented. One was for citizens and the other for practitioners. This clarified to the students how to fill the forms and the difference encountered between different buildings and how to connect that with the different options.

After That, DR. Davide Bellotti from EUCENTRE presented examples of the Italian Risk Maps

Then the floor was open for discussions and Questions and answers.

Finally, a summary of the Risk Assessment, Mitigation and Management was presented by prof Jalal Al Dabbeek ANNU.

The session was closed after that by thanking all who presented the sessions and the attendees.
